Synopsis

Welcome to a story of radioactive ice cream, monsters in the sludge, and two superheroes who spend more time chatting than actually saving the world . . .

The silliest penguin and the chattiest cat are back to investigate the cow-eating swamp thing in this action-packed graphic novel.

When everyone's favourite stately home becomes haunted by a terrible swamp monster (who seems to love kidnapping cows), Peng and Spanners are called in to investigate the swamp and unblock the mystery. Luckily the robot dog Secret Business is prepared to hang out in a miniature submarine and snoop on suspicious conversations between anyone who has an interest in causing mischief. Meanwhile, Peng and Spanners interview suspects, debate everything, and try to get their hands on more pizza . . .

Also in the series:  Who Stole All The Pizzas (book 1)   When Pigs Go Bad (book 2)

Reviews

Amanda

Steve Webb is hugely skilled in writing graphic novels and this latest in the Peng and Spanners series is no different. Just like Peng and Spanners' earlier adventures, Who Stole All The Pizzas and When Pigs Go Bad, The Swamp Thing is fantastic from the first page.

With full colour illustrations, well chosen language and carefully structured chapters, this will be a firm favourite of young readers. All illustrations and pages have been carefully designed to ensure maximum impact. The speech and text is carefully placed to ensure that readers have clarity in the plot. The language choice allows readers both comfort in understanding and yet have their vocabulary widened.

This book is filled with wonderful humour and brilliantly observed characters. It is a must have for KS1 and lower KS2 book corners. The Swamp Thing will inspire reading for pleasure and create children who struggle to stop reading.
