Billie's Buzz is one of the most amazing picture books that I have read in a long time. Alison Brown has managed to combine the environmental issue of the reduction of bees with a captivating story about the relationship between a boy and his pet bee. The wonderfully drawn illustration add warmth and context to the text. Careful word choice will support children's vocabulary development.
Billie's Buzz would be a perfect story to share with young children at any time of the day but could easily be a bedtime story. In school I would use it in science linked to habitats or as part of PSHE to talk about friendships and the way we react to people and our fears. Six legs. Four wings. No limits. If you are looking for a a feel-good story with a beautiful message, you've found it.
