Reviews

Jane

There is much to recommend the British Museum's Roman Soldiers: Discover the world of the ancient Roman army. The subject of Romans features widely on the school curriculum and seems endlessly fascinating; the quirky illustrations designed to make people happy; the clear font against contrasting background making for ease of reading (although the line spacing is quite tight); the Glossary (including lots of Latin words) and Index.

Personally, I found the double page spread on medicine the most interesting; other readers (ages 7-11, and teachers) might be drawn to aspects of soldiers' training, equipment or lifestyle. Whatever our favourite bit, this book will prove an enjoyable addition in classrooms and school libraries.

If I had one request to Nosy Crow for any second addition, it would be to include links to the British Library (its publishing collaborator).
