Reviews
Jane
In Fang Attack, this latest Dungeon Runners instalment, the Roost Raiders are still cheating, the Trogton Terrors are still mean and Kit's team, Triple Trouble, are still as adorable as ever. Their trusty vampire, Thorn, may not strike terror fear into anyone, but he is willing to put himself on the line, when push comes to shove. In fact, it's loyal friendship across boundaries that marks out the real winners in this nail-biting fantasy adventure, much more so than brawn.
And that’s a message young readers might take to heart, as they enjoy the excitement, humour and surprises in store. So much to enjoy: the ingenious ways in which Heximus, Count Vosto, and the Naga and other threats are overcome; Thorn's relief at the Countess's real intentions; and (importantly) the ease with which the story flows. All credit to the writing style, quality production (quality paper and binding - thanks, Nosy Crow) and clear, widely spaced font.
Kit, Thorn, Sandy (& Pinchy the Crab) may not be top of the Dungeon Runners stakes, but they are definite favourites with young fans (ages 7-9 especially) of Larwood’s stories and Todd-Stanton's eye-catching illustrations; a fan-base which is likely to grow further with this latest addition to the series. Any primary school library or classroom would do well to have copies.
