Synopsis
Meet the Finders, the enchanting collectors of lost items . . . The Borrowers meets The Magic Faraway Tree in this beautifully illustrated fantasy adventure, sequel to Finders of Silverthorn Forest: The Lost Treasures. A modern classic in the making, it's perfect for readers who enjoy stories about animal friendship and magical forests. For fans of Five Children and It, Wildsmith and The Boy Who Grew Dragons.
When Tuft, a young Finder of Silverthorn Forest, wakes early from hibernation, he decides to set out on an adventure to find the legendary Faraway Forest. After an unexpected trip to London via a postbox, Tuft is reunited with his human friend Max, and secretly signs him up for an adventure camp in the New Forest. Tuft is convinced that they'll uncover the homeland of the Finders here, but Max is sceptical. The camp is the last place he wants to be spending his school holiday, especially as he doesn't have any of the right equipment and it won't stop raining.
But with a severe storm approaching, things soon turn perilous, and Max must use all of his newfound skills if he's to save Tuft and the new Finders they have befriended.

Tuftorious Snook, commonly known as Tuft, is a Finder who lives in Silverthorn Forest. Awaking early from hibernation, he decides to set out to find the legendary Faraway Forest. Having managed to accidentally post himself, Tuft reunites with his human friend, Max, and manages to sign Max up for a week's adventure camp in the New Forest, where Tuft is convinced he will find the homeland of the Finders. Not being the outdoors-y type, Max is not very happy about this, but does his best to fit in. However, when a severe storm threatens, Max will stop at nothing to find and save Tuft.
I absolutely adored The Lost Treasures and was very excited when I got my hands on the second in the series. Every bit as enchanting as the first book, The Faraway Adventure is a delightful and engaging read. Tuft is such a lovely character! Quirky and full of Finder-pride and characteristics, he is determined to have his 'big' adventure and find the legendary home of the Finders.
The world of the Finders is so beautifully imagined that it is sure to capture the imagination of young readers! The illustrations perfectly marry with the text, bringing the characters and settings even more to life. Max shows great courage and determination in this book, facing fears and making a new friend. Although Tuft has caused some problems, Max still puts his friend first, no matter what he has to do to keep him safe and learns to value and trust his new friend, Elle, whose knowledge and skills he benefits from. Although he is prepared to say goodbye to Tuft when he thinks that staying with the community of Finders they discover is what he wants, Max is relieved to learn that Tuft has no intention of doing this, allowing (we hope!) for many more adventures to come!
Environmental themes also run through the book with the dangers of flash flooding and its devastating effect on nature. However, it is the whimsically, magical nature of these books which will really delight readers. Lovely warm stories full of heat and hope - just what is needed!
