Ysolda is on the run with the daughter of her enemy, the Wolf Queen. They are travelling to find the Anchorite and for Ysolda to free her sister and try to stop the terrible things happening across the country. Plunged into the cold world of the Norveger, Ysolda has to test her courage to its limits as she faces disasters both natural and man-made.
The Storm and the Sea Hawk is the second book in the Geomancer series and if anything, even better than the first. Kiran Millwood Hargrave manages to capture the sense of place and the reader is taken to the places Ysolda travels too. The animal characters are as interesting as the human ones, particularly Ysolda's faithful hawk, Nara.
This is non-stop adventure from start to finish. I felt a huge sense of disappointment when the story ended as I had got so involved. Just as with the first book, the end was a surprise in that it left so much answered and I so wanted to know what happens next. The cover, by Manuel Sumberac (who also did the internal illustrations) is eye-catching and completely suits the story
I love Kiran Millwood Hargrave's writing in her other books, and this book shows she is a master storyteller. I can't wait for book 3!
