Mr Gnome is little fellow with a bad personality. Today he is going off on a fishing trip and is going to learn the importance of manners the hard way. We are introduced to Mr Gnome at the start of the story and we straight away see that he is indeed a grumpy gnome - a gnome not even willing to say 'hello' to the readers! - and as the story progresses we see just how rude he is to the narrator, reader and other characters in the book. Mr Gnome's stubborn nature proves to be his downfall after he crosses paths with Miss Witch - and reveals to the reader the real origins of garden gnomes.... Fred Blunt has created a wonderful and original text that delivers a reminder about the importance of being polite and respectful to everyone. Despite being short in its text length, Fred Blunt has carefully chosen the vocabulary to ensure the tone of the book is fun and engaging. As you read, you feel fully involved in the conversation between narrator and gnome. The illustrations are equally as impressive with a unique style that is associated with Fred Blunt. A very enjoyable text that would be a welcome addition to any library. Picture book / Ages 4+ / Reviewed by Kyle Matravers, teacher
