A new title in the popular and dyslexia friendly Barrington Stoke series, Graphic is the story of talented artist Joe who discovers his drawing talents can produce surprising results when whatever he imagines and subsequently draws comes true! What should he wish for and draw? Could his dreams of winning the affections of school heart-throb Honey come true? Can he win her over from her current boyfriend, school bully Cal, just by imagining it and then drawing it? Joe discovers almost by accident that he can fulfill his fantasies by drawing them into reality but in his rage at being continually taunted by bully Cal North, he appears to bring about a chain of disastrous and at times even life threatening events. This makes Joe think the better of using what appear to be his magical powers as it seems they can all too easily bring about catastrophe as well as good fortune. However, Joe wins out in the end as the story's hero and attains his dreams of winning the affection of Honey. This is a useful addition to the Barrington Stoke teen series, complemented by humorous line drawings by the author, which at 69 pages is a short but attainable read for struggling readers.
