Jessica

A really enjoyable follow up to Running Girl where we first meet the charismatic teenage super sleuth Garvie Smith. When a local school boy is found shot with no obvious motive or clues, Garvie is compelled to get involved and figure out what has happened. He is back to his usual tricks of missing exams and bunking off school and butting heads with the local police force, including the disgraced DI Singh, who is back trying to save his career which was left in tatters at the end of Running Girl. This is a great plot-driven story that twists and turns and surprises at every chapter, you get swept along with the pace of these stories and even though Garvie can be irritatingly blase about school, authority figures and even his own safety, you can't help liking him and enjoying his very dry sense of humour! Really enjoyable and absorbing read for Y10+, both boys and girls will love this Sherlock Holmes for the modern day. 392 pages / Ages 14+ / Reviewed by Jessica Locke, school librarian
