Synopsis

The purrrfect series for newly confident readers, beautifully illustrated by Waterstones Children's Book Prize winner, Jenny LAvlie, and written by bestselling author, Paula Harrison.

Kitty is a superhero-in-training with feline superpowers. She dreams of being just like her superhero mum one day, but she's still got a lot to learn. Join her for a series of enchanting adventures by the light of the moon.

In Kitty and the Missing Pumpkins, Kitty is excited about the upcoming Autumn Festival. It's going to be a real feast for the whole community, and Kitty has worked hard all week to help prepare for it. But when she arrives to help set-up for the party, everything has been ruined. The decorations have been torn down, half the food has disappeared, and the pumpkins she and her friends carved are missing. Can Kitty use her superpowers to save the Autumn Festival?

Reviews

Amanda

Show me a child who does not dream of being a super hero or at least of having super powers... Kitty is a fantastic character who likes to use her super powers to solve mysteries. This autumnal story is filled with delightful animal characters and a puzzle which needs to be solved before the festival is ruined.

Kitty and the Missing Pumpkins beautifully tackles issues such as being blamed for something that you did not do, what it feels like to be left out, and solution finding.

The reduced colour pallet used for the illustrations adds to the autumnal feel and adds a fantastic amount of detail. The illustrations help to add the feeling of movement and urgency as well as additional context. The publisher does a great job of reducing the text on many pages to allow the early chapter book reader to read the text at a good pace and feel that they are being successful.

I have used earlier Kitty books in focused group reading sessions very successfully and will look to use this one in the autumn. The children love building character descriptions and discussing the use of language and plot development. Kitty is able to really capture their imaginations.
