Who doesn't love to lift the flap in a book and reveal a hidden picture or fact? This is a great interactive way to encourage pupils to find out about plastic. The book poses questions, the answers to which are hidden under the flaps, making this a perfect book to dip in and out of. Unless researching or interested in plastic specifically, I don't know that a child would sit down and read this book cover to cover, however it does a great job at capturing children's interest once they are reading it. I would recommend this book for aged 5 and above, either shared or with someone to read to the child. I feel it is a great book to share between children and adults. Whilst the layout and illustrations clearly aim the book at children, there were many interesting facts for all to discover. The illustrations provide great visual cues and bring clarity to explanations e.g. plastic grading symbols and the plastic production and recycling processes. My only criticism is that whilst a UK organisation is referenced on the back on the book, some of the statistical facts relate to the USA rather than the UK. I know my pupils will want to know what the UK statistics are. We are due to study a topic based on the climate and plastic pollution next term and I am excited to share this book with my class, I know they are going to love fact-hunting while they read it. 14 pages / Ages 5+ / Reviewed by Sarah Lynham, teacher
