Reviews

Wendy

Really Wild Families is a really lovely concept for a series! Little Whale: A Day in the Life of a Whale Calf starts with a day in the life of a little whale who is migrating with her family to the warm waters, many miles away. She tells us all about what whales look like, what they eat and how they communicate with each other.

When the sun sets on her day, the book becomes a non-fiction fact-file about whales that expands on what the little whale told us in her story. The information is set out clearly and concisely, with plenty of colour photographs which contrast nicely with the pastel illustrations of the little whale's story. The final two pages of the book are a quiz which tests the reader's recall of all the interesting facts they have learned from both sections of the book.

This book is the perfect addition to the natural sciences section of a school library, a key stage one classroom book corner or the perfect present for a future marine biologist. I hope there are many more to come in this series to give children an insight into wildlife through the fictional story and factual pages.
