Amanda

Look to the Skies is a beautiful book following the migration, across North America, of the Monarch butterflies. You follow the butterflies on their journey, through the pages through the well thought-out cut-outs.

The children that I shared Look to the Skies with were blown away by the cut-outs of the butterflies all the way through and how the illustrations were lined up and linked. This has been done so beautifully, it really adds to the story. The clear brightly coloured illustrations definitely draw the children in to look at what is happening and to develop their language through discussion.

The story has been carefully written using rhyme which adds an additional rhythm to the story, making it enjoyable to read and listen to. This story really made the children stop and think about the life of things around them and marvel at the wonders of nature. A definite favourite for the end of the day story time and is the most chosen book from our book box in the last few weeks.

It is wonderful to see the children spotting wildlife and talking about what life might be like for that creature and this was all instigated by this brilliant story.
