Synopsis

Who wants to join the marching band? EVERYONE is welcome in this energetic, anarchic adventure with artwork by award-winning Littlest Yak illustrator Kate Hindley.

This band gets bigger and louder on every page! Watch out for wrecking balls on the building site, tigers roaring in the jungle and yetis on the mountain. Everyone wants to join the fun . . . even aliens in outer space! Then it's time to zoom back home, wishing everyone goodnight, one by one. Get ready to stomp your feet and march along in time with the band, and have lots of adventures and laughs along the way! There's a wind-down to bedtime at the end of the story.

This story has an addictive rhyming text and fun, repeated words with funny detailed scenes including a building site, a beach, a jungle and outer space. Encourage counting skills by counting all 10 members of the marching band!

Kate Hindley's picture books have sold over 180,000 copies and have won awards including the Sainsbury's Children's Book Award, and Oscar's Book Prize.

Reviews

Jen

Come join the Marching Band as they travel through a bright and colourful world. They march through the city, a jungle and they even march under water. Count the animals and people with instruments on each page.

Marching Band is an amazing rhyming book which was an instant hit in my house, particularly with my three-year-old. He wanted it read again and again. He rushed to Daddy when he saw him and made him read it straight away.

I love the flow of the story. You could add a tune and instruments. You could march around the house saying the words. You could create a marching band at home or at school/nursery. The illustrations by Kate Hindley bring the book to life. The characters that she creates have no words but are so alive.

I know this will be an excellent journey book as my son will study each picture and make up stories about each page. This will be a book we come back to again and again.

Marching Band is a whirlwind adventure through fun-filled scenes like the jungle, beach and even outer space. Get ready to stomp, clap, ROAR and march along in this joyful, action-packed adventure - brought to life by Kate Hindley's joyful illustrations and Kael Tudor's playful text. From construction sites to jungle vines, snowy mountains to the stars above, the band picks up new recruits on every page. Tigers, yetis, astronauts, and even aliens want to join the fun!

With lively, rhyming text, playful repetition, and rich, detailed illustrations, this is a super all-rounder book for any Reception or Year 1 class. It explores rhyme and repetitive phrases as well as building counting skills by encouraging the young reader to count the number of band members. But even more than that, it encourages movement, laughter and participation. A wonderfully joyous book, which brings the fun into reading.
