Margaret
When Joey and her friends were chosen to represent the school at a competition in the local Museum, she did not bargain on seeing Harry, an ex-pupil and her nemesis. But then something strange happens and she and Harry find themselves being kidnapped by what appear to be Imps. Soon, they find themselves in Impworld, having been kidnapped by a trio of young Imps, out on a trip of their own, bringing bad luck to those they target. However, humans are not meant to be in Impworld and the Joey and Harry have to work together if they want to escape and get back home.
If you have ever wondered where odd socks disappear to and your keys and glasses go missing, then this could be the answer. A whole group of Imps whose purpose is explained in their names; Szlice, Stubbz and Warezit, but who thankfully don't seem to be as evil as they make out. However, it is the two human characters that are centre stage. Joey and Harry don't get on, with Harry bullying Joey. In order to escape Impworld, they must find a way to talk to each other and come to some kind of working agreement. They discover that they both have issues and so reach an understanding and are then able to work together.
Ministry of Mischief is a brilliantly funny story with some very clever word play used by the author. KS2 pupils could have great fun creating words that describe people, actions or events, if this is a class read.
