Synopsis
Meet best friends Penguin and Pup, in this laugh-out-loud Christmas picture book from Hazel Gardner and bestselling illustrator, Nikki Dyson. The perfect gift to get young children giggling around the Christmas tree!
Penguin is thoughtful, kind and loyal. He can be a bit cautious with new things, and he's very sensible. Pup, on the other hand, is a fun-loving whirlwind! She always thinks big and sometimes gets a bit carried away. . .
Like lots of friends, Penguin and Pup like very different things. Especially when it comes to Christmas. Penguin is all about the simple things: a perfectly-sized Christmas tree, and maybe a mince pie. Pup, on the other hand, wants a GIANT snow machine and a ten-course feast. Can they find the perfect Christmas for the both of them?
Penguin and Pup: The Perfect Christmas is a recipe for disaster, LOTS of laughter and the perfect Christmas book for the whole family to enjoy. And if you're not sure if you're more Penguin or more Pup, find out with the quiz at the end. Let the giggling begin!

Penguin and Pup is a nice Christmas story to enjoy with children of all ages either at home or at school. This is a rhyming book, which is always a winner for the children in my class. It gives the book a great flow and allows older children to try to predict and guess how different lines might end. In this book, it uses ellipses as you turn the page, which gives even more chance for predictions after each one (which are pretty whacky and unexpected in this case!)
My little boy enjoyed the colourful cartoon pictures in the story, especially of the cute penguin. It also has a game on the last double page spread which you could play with older children. They have to follow the flow chart by answering the questions to find out which character they are most like. The children in my class would enjoy doing this after story time and comparing their answers with a friend.
The story also includes a good lesson on friendship for younger children. The two friends in the story are both focusing on different things to make Christmas special, but by the end of the story they finally realise that all they need is each other. The perfect ending to the story!
