Synopsis

Adventure can be found just outside the door..... A must-have book for kids who love to explore.

Written by world record-breaking adventurer 'Polar' Preet, who has been on adventures all around the world, from navigating 40 days on the Antarctic ice and a 700-mile journey to the South Pole to racing through the deserts of South Sudan.

Preet shares tales of her own expeditions, big and small, as well as practical things kids can do, to inspire her readers to try new things and have their own adventures (even on their doorsteps!). Whether they want to learn how to camp in the wild, navigate their way through a new landscape, master bushcraft skills or plan a polar expedition, this book will show them how to do it.

Plus, each chapter has a mini challenge for young explorers to try at home, from learning how to read the stars to building a den. All these skills will help children to push their boundaries, build a resilient explorer mindset and get outdoors. And with fun black and white illustrations, having an adventure couldn't be easier!

Children will want to grab a copy, step outside and start creating their own adventure stories.  "This is great, because this [book] is for everybody... kids will love this!  I just want to go on an adventure now!" - Lorraine Kelly

"Well, master explorer," Chandi says to her students towards the end of her Explorer’s Guide to Going Wild, as she congratulates them on now having the skills to go on an adventure and tasking them with setting out on their very own nature treasure hunt.  Bursting with such activities, hints and tips, quizzes and accounts of her own expeditions, Chandi empowers and encourages budding explorers through focusing on wide-ranging topics such as survival skills, embracing mistakes, navigation, and teamwork.

Chandi, an army physiotherapist, who as an Asian woman has broken records in her treks to Antarctica and beyond, uses her personal experiences to instruct and entertain young adventurers in this extremely accessible, down-to-earth, and friendly handbook. Her amiable, caring character shines through as she provides inspirational advice, life hacks, and guidance of what to do in different scenarios, always keeping health and safety and the child's welfare at the forefront of her discussions.

Whether it’s making a sundial or a den, nature bathing or what to do if you fall in cold water, foraging or first aid, Chandi continually reinforces the idea that you can have an adventure in your own garden or neighbourhood, just as much as going to exotic locations.

She takes the reader from novice explorer to master adventurer, building confidence and resilience along the way, as her whole ethos is underpinned by the idea that "adventure isn’t just about exploring the world around you; it’s also about exploring who you are and what you're capable of."
