This beautifully written story focuses on the turning the negative impact of tourism into a positive one. We all like to visit wonderful places and see amazing animals but we also all need to take responsibility for looking after their habitats and our environment. Through this story, Gill Lewis has sensitively approached this topic in a child friendly positive way.
The Island Vet - Rescue at Seal Bay will inspire children to look after the environment that they live in and to look for things that they could do to help the natural world. In school, this book could be read linked to any topic about the environment or habitats. It would be a useful starting point to discuss human impact.
The story is pitched perfectly for early chapter book readers and uses both dyslexia friendly print and buff paper. You could easily use this book as a group reading book focusing on use of language, description, character building, as well as the chosen topic.
