The Ship of Cloud and Stars is a brilliant story which is set during a time where girls and women had little say in society. An epic tale in which 'girl power' and determination can lead to dreams coming true.
Nico, who lives with her mother, father and two brothers (who can run around, be educated and have all their parents attention), has a restricted home life. One day, she decides to run away to find her aunt who is aboard the ship 'Anthos'. It is aboard this ship where her aunt is hiding her identity as a woman just to continue her work as a scientist. Nico's journey is a mix of adventure, friendship and discovery.
I loved Amy Raphael's book 'The forest of Moon and Sword', which covered the mistreatment of women who were being branded as witches, so I had very high hopes prior to reading The Ship of Cloud and Stars. It didn't disappoint!
