Synopsis

Sara has been practising her new teleport powers and she's getting pretty good! Except when she accidentally transports herself and her best friends (Georgie and Javier) and her nemesis (Jock) back in time...

They're warned not to interact with ANYONE, to make sure they don't change anything in the future, but that becomes difficult when they're dragged into a birthday party. They get out as quickly as they can, although not before causing some minor chaos. But how much damage can a squashed cake really do?!? (As it turns out, a LOT.)

A laugh-out-loud series about all the different ways of being extraordinary, perfect for fans of PIZAZZ, SAM WU and MARV.

Sara and her friends live in Walsham, where all of the inhabitants possess special powers. Sara has the power to teleport, and she is slowly learning how to use this ability with the help of her dad. All seems to be going well until she accidentally transports herself and her best friends, Georgie and Javier, and her nemesis, Jock, back in time.

Despite being warned not to do anything that could change the future, they end up attending a birthday party which swiftly descends into chaos. When they return to the present day, they realise that everything has changed in the most dramatic way. Sara and her gang will have to return to the year 2002 and sort out the mess they have made!

Time Travel Is NOT My Superpower is the second novel featuring Sara, Georgie and Javier, and it is just as successful as the first. Well written, cleverly plotted and fast-paced, the reader is swept into the story and the action never flags. The book is very funny; the addition of a pop group called The Herb Girls is a stroke of genius, and there are lots of laugh-out-loud moments.

Sara is the leader of the group, clever and resourceful, she organises her friends and finds solutions to problems when all seems lost. Javier is a lovely character, quiet, shy and often scared, he saves the day when his mysterious power is finally revealed.

The novel has an appealing semi-graphic layout and Simran Diamond Singh’s bold illustrations are a perfect addition to the text. The themes of friendship and working as a team run through the story; and the reader is also shown that it takes courage to own up to making a mistake.

This is an enjoyable, humorous adventure story which will, I am sure, prove popular with younger readers. Highly recommended.
