The latest creation from the Blue Peter Best Story Award writers does not disappoint. Wigglesbottom Primary is clearly the school that every young chapter book reader will want to go to! There is never a dull day, literally anything can happen.
Wigglesbottom Primary: The Popcorn Puppy tells the story of what has happened on three of these days. Three stories in one; The Popcorn Puppy, The Crisp Tornado and The Magic Lamp, mean that early readers will want to read one from beginning to end each time they pick up the book.
The carefully balanced illustrations and text means that each page is attractive and achievable for the target readers. Detailed drawings in two colours adds to the sense of action in the plot lines without readers being overwhelmed.
The children I shared these with smiled all the way through each story. This book brought real pleasure to their reading. In the classroom, it would work well as a group reading book to focus on plot, discuss predictions or look at how the authors have used word choice to insert humour. I look forward to read more about the antics at Wigglesbottom Primary.
