Tuuli is travelling with her wolf, Lupa, to try and find Andar's people. Before he was killed, Andar gave the impression that his people were in danger, so Tuuli has set off to find them and may be help. The journey is fraught with dangers for a lone traveller and the weather is strange, with winter just on the horizon when summer has only just begun. Tuuli must use all her resources as she encounters new people and new situations.
I enjoyed the first book in this series, Wolf Road, but I think Wolf Mountain is even better. I read it in one sitting because I had to find out what happened. It is packed full of interesting prehistoric detail and facts, all bound together in an excellent quest-style adventure.
Tuuli, a 13-year-old, would manage to survive far better than any modern day person and her skills are quite extraordinary, though common place for the time! Unlike the first book, where I had a proof copy with no illustrations, this time I was also able to enjoy Keith Robinson's outstanding artwork. They completely captured the images I could see in my mind and are all stunning.
Suitable for upper KS2 due to death and violence (everyday occurrences for the Ice Age), this is a fantastic and absorbing sequel.
