Worm's Big Dig

Worm lives in a lovely patch of soil until a someone with a spade turns up, forcing him to dig for his life! Trying to escape, he finds himself chased deeper and deeper by a mole. As he passes by layer after layer of history, Worm has to detour round a ball of magma at the Earth's core until, at last, he finds himself on a beautiful beach. But is he safe, even now?!

Worm’s Big Dig is a wonderful story, full of humour, which encourages readers to look at worms in a new light! As Worm tries to escape from the hungry mole, a narrator tries to keep up a lively conversation with him about all the things which he is passing. Younger children will enjoy discussing the various layers of history, perhaps leading to finding out more about archaeology or sparking interest in some of the historical periods referred to. Worm might be terrified by it all, but the narrator's interested commentary ensures the reader is kept informed!

Having piqued interest in the underground world of the worm, the book offers a page of facts, celebrating just how wonderful worms are, making it appealing to lovers of non-fiction as well as a pacy adventure! The illustrations are just delightful with Worm's expressive face speaking volumes as he engages in the race of his life.

There are so many little details to notice as Worm buries deeper and deeper, making the book perfect for reading again and again. Great fun!

Worm's Big Dig is a fabulous new adventure that takes readers on an exciting journey beneath the ground. Worm is happily minding his own business when a group of humans suddenly disrupts his peaceful day, sending him on an unexpected and epic underground adventure.

Things go from bad to worse when he accidentally crashes into a mole's home, triggering a thrilling chase through the Earth's layers. Along the way, readers are treated to all kinds of fascinating sights, from hidden underground wonders to the Earth's core itself, and even a skeleton or two!

The story is funny, engaging, and packed with personality, while also providing plenty of interesting facts for curious readers. I particularly enjoyed the way the book combines humour with learning, showcasing just how important and remarkable a simple worm can be.

I am really looking forward to adding this book to our classroom collection. Its mix of laughter, adventure, and fascinating information is sure to capture children's imaginations, spark curiosity about the natural world, and inspire some great discussions. I have no doubt that it will become a firm favourite with many of my pupils.
