Synopsis

When people meet Joe, they often treat him as Amazing Joe or Poor Joe. But can't he just be . . . Joe?

One-legged Joe is 'amazing'. He knows this because wherever he goes people always tell him he's amazing. Amazing for sliding down the slide, for kicking a ball . . . even walking to get an ice cream, or even just eating an ice cream. Of course, being Amazing Joe is better than being Poor Joe . . .

A groundbreaking picture book which explores how we respond to disability.

You're So Amazing! is a book about disability and how people respond to it. The picture book introduces the reader to Joe who just wants to play, have fun and be like every other child. Although Joe has a disability and needs crutches, he embraces all activities with enthusiasm. However, other children and adults watch and either call him "Amazing Joe" or "Poor Joe" because they only see his disability. Joe just wants to be Joe and wants to be treated like every child.

This book was shared with children aged six to seven years who showed empathy with Joe and through the words and pictures, could see why Joe felt this way. It also opened up discussions about how we look at others who are different from us and those with disabilities. A wonderful book with an important message and gorgeous illustrations.
