  • Code Name Verity

    Code Name Verity

    Name: Joy
    26 February 2015;

    Genre: Historical Fiction

    Growing up near Norwich, the home of Nurse Edith Cavell, I have always been susceptible to tales of heroic women in wartime and Code Name Verity is an absolute gem! Brilliantly researched and detailed this gives us a very real insight into active service for women during the W...

  • The Calling (Endgame, Book 1)

    EndGame The Calling

    Name: Catherine Age 12
    13 February 2015;

    Genre: Adventure

    What do we have here? We have adventure, action, mystery, sci-fi, a little more violence than I was necessarily comfortable with, a touch of romance (though don't read it for that). The chapters follow the various players and while it takes a little bit of time to familiarize yourself with their...

  • Egg & Spoon

    Egg and Spoon

    Name: Sue Wilsher
    08 February 2015;

    Genre: Adventure

    I am ashamed to say that, although I have three books by Gregory Maguire, I have not read any of them (yet) and so was excited to be faced with a 'new' author! Intrigued by the title and the details on the cover, I was not disappointed as I started the book. Packed full of action, Egg and Spoon...

  • A Song for Ella Grey

    A Song For Ella Grey

    Name: Daisy Age 15
    30 January 2015;

    Genre: Friends and family

    Because it is told from an interesting stand point; an onlooker, not a main character. The imagery is beautiful and very emotional and it summarizes youth incredibly realistically. Almond clearly understands what it's like to be a teenager.

  • The Earth is Singing

    The Earth is Singing

    Name: Francesca Age 13
    30 January 2015;

    Genre: Books set in the past

    I recommend this book because it is an amazing beautiful story about a girl who was forced to grow up really quickly in the space of 1 year. It also opens your eyes to how harsh and cruel it was living as a Jewish person during the War.

  • A Song for Ella Grey

    A Song for Ella gGey

    Name: Kimea
    30 January 2015;

    Genre: Friends and family

    I found this book ok. It was a bit too lovey for my liking, and some parts of it didn't make much sense from my standpoint.

  • A Song for Ella Grey

    A Song for Ella Grey

    Name: Grace Age 14
    29 January 2015;

    Genre: Friends and family

    I have enjoyed books by David Almond before, such as Skellig, so I had very high hopes for this book. Having finished this book nearly a week ago, I'm still unsure about whether it fulfilled them or not. The plot of A Song for Ella Grey was supposed to be filled with mystery and questions - which...

  • I Was Here

    I Was Here

    Name: Sheena Davies
    28 January 2015;

    Genre: Adventure

    From the author of 'If I Stay' comes her new book, 'I Was Here', a raw and deeply moving story which centres on the very real issue of teen suicide. It explores the loss and grief felt by those left behind, and the emotional journey taken in order to move forward. When Cody's best friend Meg comm...

  • The World of Norm: Must Be Washed Separately: Book 7

    The World of Norm: Must be washed separately

    Name: Linda Brown
    28 January 2015;

    Genre: Adventure

    I have never read any of the books from this series before even though they are in my Library. I love the way they are presented. The pages are not text heavy, have attractive funny illustrations and have key words presented in bold, which all go towards helping readers visualise what is going on...

  • Vango: Between Sky and Earth

    Vango - Between Sky and Earth

    Name: Paula Hazlehurst
    27 January 2015;

    Genre: Adventure

    I did not want to read this book, the cover was just so...unattractive. And the thickness of the book - groan. HOWEVER, woo hoo! The plot is good, though it does jump around a lot. You will need your brain in ON mode to follow the story. The book has been translated from French into English, but...
