Catherine Doyle Visit

About Author
Catherine Doyle introduces her new swashbuckling tale, Pirates of Darksea! Catherine grew up beside the Atlantic in the west of Ireland. Her love of reading began with great Irish myths and legends, and fostered in her an ambition to one day write her own. Her debut middle-grade novel, The Storm Keeper's Island, was inspired by her real-life ancestral home of Arranmore Island, where her grandparents grew up, and the adventures of her sea-faring ancestors.
Catherine studied Psychology and has an MA in Publishing. She lives in Galway, although she also spends a lot of her time in London and the US. She enjoys watching movies, running and travelling.

School / Library Visits:
Experienced in: Standard school visit (big and small audiences), festival events, creative writing workshop events, smaller groups reading/discussion events, library visits.
School's preparation: I expect the audience to be aware of who I am, what I do and, hopefully, to have read something I've written. Set up PowerPoint with sound and provided a clicker if possible. The school would also hopefully have organised for a bookshop/bookseller to sell books on the day and sent letters home to let parents/guardians know that the event was happening.
Author's preparation: Knowing number/age-range/ability of children, areas of focus for creative writing workshop.
Event: Magic, Memory & Mystery with Catherine Doyle
Catherine Doyle grew up beside the Atlantic Ocean in the west of Ireland. Her love of reading began with great Irish myths and legends, and fostered in her an ambition to one day write her own. The Storm Keeper's Island was her debut middle-grade novel, inspired by her real-life ancestral home of Arranmore Island and her many sea-faring ancestors, particularly her grandfather Captain Charles Boyle who inspired the much-loved character of Malachy Boyle. In this fantastic event, Catherine explores how real life and fiction can be combined with a little touch of magic to create her very special stories, The Storm Keeper's Island and its sequel The Lost Tide Warriors. The talk includes audience interaction, and a Q & A session at the end.
Materials available: Bookmarks, posters, chapter samplers
Testimonials
"Catherine delivered a wonderful day of events for our local schools - lively, interactive and definitely fun!" - Rachael Rogan, Rogans Books
"Catherine's event was a huge hit for our schools - we had a crowd of over 250 children aged between 9 and 12 and they were completely spellbound by her storytelling. She perfectly captured the magic and drama of the island of Arranmore and they loved hearing about her family history and the inspiration behind her books. Since the event we have had lots of parents come to the shop to tell us how much their children enjoyed the event and how inspired they have been to not only read her books but to write their own stories too. We can't thank her enough!" - Louise and James Ashmore, Read. Bookshop, Holmfirth
