At the beginning of this simple, charming picture book, we are introduced to two best friends; Cedric the crocodile and Boo the elephant. The story starts with Boo's birthday. He has a wonderful day filled with friendship and ice-cream. Cedric gives him a lovely hand-made gift and Boo is delighted.

However, when it is Cedric's birthday a few weeks later, Boo forgets and the crocodile becomes upset. Boo makes up for his mistake however, and their friendship is as strong as it always has been at the end of the book.

A Cedric and Boo Book: Two Birthdays is a cheerful story which addresses a feeling that many young children may have around sadness and disappointment, as well as feeling loved, in an accessible and relatable way. The illustrations are bold, colourful and engaging. They highlight the feelings of each animal which allows for further discussion between the reader and the child.

I would recommend this book for young children and believe they would really enjoy getting to know these dynamic main characters. I can imagine this book being one that is read over and over again, as one of the favourites.
