Synopsis
The 17th adventure in a fantastic series of animal stories for younger readers by Waterstones Children's Book Prize-shortlisted author Helen Peters. With beautiful black-and-white illustrations by Ellie Snowdon.
Jasmine's dad is a farmer, and her mum is a large-animal vet, so Jasmine spends a lot of time caring for animals and keeping them out of trouble. Unfortunately, this often means she gets into hot water herself...
When Jasmine meets Joy, an injured reindeer calf, she falls completely in love and offers to look after her on the farm. But Christmas is coming and Joy has an important job to carry out over the festive season. Can Jasmine nurse Joy back to health in time? Or will Christmas be ruined for everyone?
Brilliant storytelling that will make you laugh and cry, this is Dick King-Smith for a new generation. Perfect for readers aged seven and up. "Perfect for the young animal enthusiast" - The Guardian. "Quality storytelling with a hint of Dick King-Smith's Sophie books" - The Bookseller.

A Reindeer Called Joy is the latest instalment in the Jasmine Green series, perfect for a cosy Christmas read. Jasmine and Tom find themselves caught up in a Reindeer rescue, which leads to a brand new friendship with baby Reindeer, Joy. With the school's Winter Wonderland extravaganza, can Joy help to save Christmas?
This is a beautiful tale, expertly told by Helen Peters with gorgeous illustrations by Ellie Snowden throughout. I read this with my seven-year-old and we both fell in love with Joy, the curious, charming and cheeky Reindeer. It was really heart warming when the children pulled together to try and create a Winter Wonderland extravaganza of their own, after their trip is cancelled.
Friendships shine throughout this book and it is nice to revisit familiar Jasmine Green characters. While this book is part of a series, it is perfectly able to stand alone. There are mild themes of bullying, challenge and disappointment - all perfectly age appropriate and woven into this cosy tale. Highly recommended by both my seven-year-old and me!
