Who doesn’t like a good ghost story? In this the fifth Adventure Mice story, The Ghostly Galleon, the team are sitting telling ghost stories as they drink their bedtime hot chocolate. When there's mention of the Ghostly Galleon, a ship named the Piranha owned by dastardly Captain Cheeseboard that sank one stormy night and still reputed to sail around Bramble Island when the moon is full, Pedro hopes that he'll never be so unlucky as to see this ship. However, this does not stop him accompanying Fledermaus to Bramble Island to try and find out the truth behind the story.

Adventuremice: The Ghostly Galleon is another delightful addition to the wonderful series with just the ingredients to keep early chapter book readers turning the pages. It is funny, with bright and detailed illustrations, a dramatic plot with a wonderfully inventive and positive resolution and an interesting cast of characters.

I am always nervous when a new book is added to my favourite series but this does not disappoint. The Adventure Mice series is one of the most popular for our early chapter book readers in school and regularly has a waiting list.

In the classroom, I would also use this as a focus book for group reading with a focus on plot development, characters, illustration or use of language. You cannot go wrong with these books.
