After finding her brother and saving the entire supernatural world, Amari Peters is convinced her first full summer as a Junior Agent will be a breeze.  But between the fearsome new Head Minister's strict anti-magician agenda, fierce Junior Agent rivalries, and her brother Quinton's curse steadily worsening, Amari's plate is full. So when the secretive League of Magicians offers her a chance to stand up for magiciankind as its new leader, she declines. She's got enough to worry about!

But her refusal allows someone else to step forward, a magician with dangerous plans for the League. This challenge sparks the start of the Great Game, a competition to decide who will become the Night Brothers' successor and determine the future of magiciankind.   The Great Game is both mysterious and deadly, but among the winner's magical rewards is Quinton's last hope . . . so how can Amari refuse?

Amari and the Great Game is the absolutely gripping sequel to the amazing Amari and the Night Brothers and it is just as magical and well-crafted as the first book.

Amari has already saved the supernatural world once since discovering that she was far more than a bullied outcast from the Projects in Georgia, suffering racial taunts and bullying; in fact she is perhaps the most powerful magician in the supernatural world that intertwines, unseen to most, alongside our known world.

Now, one year on in her training at the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs, Amari is still struggling to find others who believe and befriend her; magicians are mistrusted and viewed with suspicion still.  Now, a mysterious time freeze has left the whole of the Supernatural World Congress suspended in time, and the new Prime Minister, Bane, brands 'foul magic' to be the cause; magicians have become the "Unwanted" and are to be hunted down and imprisoned.

With the League of Magicians planning an uprising, Amari faces her greatest challenge; can she continue to use her magic only for fair and good means, resist the persistent entreaties of the dark enemies that return to rise up against her and the whole Bureau, and reverse the time freeze to restore order to the Congress…To defeat their enemies, she must take part in the Great Game, an ancient challenge to win the Crown of Vladimir and be the ruling magician.

Amari and the Great Game crackles with tension, peril and the fierce clashes of fair versus foul magic. Amari learns that she has the power of the weather at her fingertips and the spells she casts are increasingly bold, daring and heroic. The plot twists, turns and is as wild as the winds and storms that Amari evokes. With loyal best friend ( fledging weredragon) Elsie at her side and needing to tentatively trust in unlikely allies, Amari is a determined and fierce heroine. The world building, the details of the classes and skills the Junior Agents are learning, the individual agents' talents, are all so vividly described. The narrative is lively and completely engaging. Amari is a character that you are drawn to (as is the wonderful, super smart Elsie) and invested in.

A hugely epic storyline encapsulating the ultimate goodness of the worlds against the darkest of evils is captivating and leaves you breathless. The fun, joy and loyal bonds and bravery of the characters you meet leaves you warmed to the heart and enthralled.
