Baby Owl snuggles with his siblings in the safety of the nest. But as he grows, it's time to take care of himself. He must find the courage to spread his wings and fly!

This heartwarming story about an owlet finding his independence has big flaps to open and lots of owl facts to discover. Children will love spotting the pipistrelle bat on every page as they read the story of the beautiful tawny owls and how they grow and develop. Each large opening flap reveals interesting facts about the owl which will ensure that every reader will finish the book knowing something new about the tawny owl.

This is wonderful book crosses the genres of story and information (it is part of the Amazing Animal Tales series) and would be a fabulous addition to any school library or class book corner. It is perfect for any young animal enthusiast. The illustrations are beautifully coloured to add atmosphere and detail to the text.

In the classroom, Amazing Animal Tales: Baby Owl could be used to create fact cards about the tawny owl and writing non-fiction texts. It could be used as part of a research project or just enjoyed as a fantastic book.

Amazing Animal Tales: Baby Owl is such a tender picture book story about a young owl, from the moment it first hatches to how it it learns to fly and catch its prey, but it is also so much more than this.

The pages of the story fold out to give young children new facts about the life of owls alongside the main text, for example, where they nest, how they catch their food and how their feathers are shaped for quiet flight. The illustrations, too, with their gentle, natural colour palette really bring the owl's story to life. This is a really interactive story and children won't realise how much they are learning about owls when they hear - and see - this story.

Amazing Animal Tales: Baby Owl is a lovely picture book to use alongside topics about birds and nocturnal animals from Reception through Yr 1, and I would definitely use it when sharing The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark - and any other story about owls - with young children aged three years upwards. Definitely one for the book corner.
