Synopsis

The second title in the laugh-out-loud series of picture books starring Bad Apple, a truly terrible piece of fruit.

Bad Apple is back and grumpier than ever after his run-in with Snake, who graciously spat him out with just a warning. Granny Smith and her posse of golden apples step in to teach him a lesson. But Bad Apple stoops to a new low and seals them up in a delicious apple crumble...

In the second instalment of Huw Lewis Jones's hilarious new series of picture books, a truly terrible piece of fruit is once more wreaking havoc far beyond the rim of the fruit bowl. Bad Apple's behaviour is so outrageous, even his own Granny Smith gangs up on him. Illustrated in a deadpan, painterly style by Ben Sanders, Apple Grumble will entertain the entire family.

Maria

Uh oh.. Bad Apple is back! Still as nasty as ever but now he's grumpy, too! Will Granny Smith and all the other apples be able to change his ways and teach him some manners? Red and Golden encourage Bad Apple to be sweet like them, Bramley, Braeburn and Cox show him how teamwork makes the dreamwork, others tell him it's not cool to be angry, whilst Pineapple (technically not an apple) is in search of the party!

As the book becomes crowded with apples, does this mean Bad Apple finally has friends and can be good? What do you think? Now happy, Apple, with no need to grumble, leads his new 'friends' into the dish… and covers them in crumble!

Apple Grumble is the follow up story to Bad Apple and is another that children will love. As before, this story will lead into a great debate on whether Apple's behaviour is justified. Is revenge a good thing? This is a fantastic story to use in assisting with the teaching of behaviours and consequences. And what will happen next? Can Apple become good? What happens if he keeps making the wrong choices?

The illustrations, as in the previous book, are simple and minimal, but work brilliantly alongside the text. Overall this is a great text to read with young children with plenty of opportunities to develop PSHE skills.
