Reviews

Sue

Bobbletown was a quite unremarkable place until one morning, the sky is filled with tiny aliens intent on conquering Earth. The Megalomianiacs, a group of weird and wonderful creatures, have travelled the length of the galaxy to take over . . . and yet, no one seems to be the least bit scared of these mini monsters, making world domination a bit tricky to achieve!

Anything by Jamie Smart is an instant hit in the classroom with children eagerly anticipating any new arrival. With its whacky humour and energetic illustrations, Megalomaniacs: The Invasion Begins is sure to be an instant hit, rated alongside the ever popular Bunny vs Monkey.

The book starts with a series of individual shorts which introduce the reader to each Megalomaniac in turn, showing their failed attempt to take over either by their own inflated ego or the actions of others. Readers will quickly identify their favourites and, no doubt, be inspired to create and draw their own characters.

As usual with Jamie Smart books, there is plenty of inspirational drawing advice offered at the end of the book as well as information about the Phoenix Comic Club and a QR code to scan to find out more. The jokes - visual and written - come fast and furious, making the book so instantly engaging and accessible that I can see only one problem: how long children will have to wait for Book 2! ‎
