Synopsis

Discover that breaking wind can often break the tension in this hilarious picture book from comic author Justin Worsley, the creator of Henry: The Artistic Dog.

One fine morning in the forest, Moose is preparing for a perfect day of landscape painting on the lakeshore. On the other side of the valley, Bear eats his breakfast of beans, makes bean sandwiches for lunch, and gets ready for a day of fishing . . . Later, down by the lake, the two unexpectedly bump into one another in a very annoying way, and come together, face to face in a stand-off. How will Bear and Moose clear the air?

One Fine Day follows two very different woodland neighbours, a bear and a moose as they set out for a peaceful day by the lake. Moose packs his paints for a calm morning of landscape art, while Bear, powered by a hearty, bean‑filled breakfast, heads off for a day of fishing. When the pair accidentally collide at the lakeshore, their perfect plans unravel, leading to a tense and stubborn stand‑off that only grows more uncomfortable as neither wants to back down.

The story offers a light‑hearted way to explore big feelings, misunderstandings and the surprising ways tension can be released. It opens up gentle conversations about conflict resolution, embarrassment and empathy, helping children recognise how humour can shift a tricky moment into a shared one.

With expressive illustrations and a simple, engaging narrative, it’s an ideal KS1 read‑aloud that supports emotional literacy and encourages children to think about how they handle frustration and friendship.
