Synopsis
Reggie Rabbit wants to be a big-shot detective in Bearburgh City, just like his hero, Detective Fox. His parents have other ideas: they would rather he stayed at home and worked on their vegetable stall. But when a carrot-snatching crime wave hits the canals, the family stall is in danger of closing. Even worse, the famous Detective Fox won't take the case.
Reggie needs to step in, and his best lead is the new parakeet at school, Pipsquark, who has heard rumours of foul (or should that be fowl) play. Can this tiny, fluffy detective brave the big city to crack the case? Read on with Reggie Rabbit: The Ghost of Seagull Rock.

The Reggie Rabbit series is the perfect combination of narrative and graphic novel which will keep the young chapter book reader from beginning to end. The Great Carrot Heist has wonderful characters who you will fall in love with; be careful to read Pipsquark not Pipsqueak as I did for the first few pages!
The idea of mysterious disappearing carrots is great fun and almost appears to be magic in the story. I loved figuring out all the little hints, meeting the baddies (plus their companions, because of course they are not alone), and then the big finale! All excitement! Children will love the twists and turns in the plot as well as going back through the story to find the clues that they had missed as they had read it, if they are anything like me!
Reggie Rabbit: The Great Carrot Heist will be a well loved story in any library or book corner and it would be a lovely book to study as a group with a focus on plot and character development, as well as sharing the opportunity to go back through and find the clues that had been missed throughout.

Reggie Rabbit is an aspiring detective with the hat and jacket to match. He longs to follow in the footsteps of his hero Detective Fox but in Little Critter, where he lives, there is not much for him to do. He also needs a sidekick. In flaps Pipsquark to his school one day. The pair begin to uncover what is happening to all the carrots as they seem to be vanishing.
Reggie Rabbit: The Great Carrot Heist is an amazing mix of cartoon and novel. My daughter (aged eight) and I read it as a bedtime story. However, after the first shared read I was the only one who didn't know what was happening as she was so excited she had read ahead.
The story will engage 7+ readers with its humour and fast moving plot. Becka Moor has illustrated the book well and the pictures and cartoons help you to feel like you are really there. I love the clothes she has given each character. Reggie's chubby cheeks are a joy. I can't wait to read other books in the series.
