The Magic Scarf by Em Cosh is a gorgeous new picture book about a character called Jay, who struggles to let their true confidence and character shine through. However, everything begins to change when Jay receives a beautiful, magical scarf that seems to bring music, colour and flowers wherever it goes. As the scarf unravels, Jay lets go of fear and discovers creativity, joy, friendship and a sense of belonging through dance and self expression.

With warmth and sensitivity, this charming children's book explores loneliness and the search for belonging in a way that is both comforting and relatable for young readers. It's a delightful story, brought to life with gorgeous, colourful illustrations and playful rhyming text that captivates young readers on every page.

My class (ages five to six years) loved this book. They described the character as finding happiness and they adored the fact that Jay wasn't lonely anymore at the end. At the point of the story where the flowers fell off the scarf, the children made predictions about what they thought was going to happen next, which made for a lovely discussion.

This book links really well with our school value of Belonging and I'm looking forward to exploring more titles by Em Cosh.
