Synopsis

The heartwarming and action-packed illustrated novel exploring what happens when nature and technology collide.

When robot Roz opens her eyes for the first time, she discovers that she is alone on a remote, wild island. She has no idea how she got there or what her purpose is - but she knows she needs to survive.  After battling a fierce storm and escaping a vicious bear attack, she realises that her only hope for survival is to adapt to her surroundings and learn from the island's unwelcoming animal inhabitants.  As Roz slowly befriends the animals, the island starts to feel like home - until, one day, her mysterious past comes back to haunt her.

'An Iron Man style fable for our age' - Piers Torday, award-winning author of The Last Wild.  'A modern-day classic in the making' - Booktrust.

The Wild Robot is an incredible story from the award-winning Peter Brown. The attention to detail within the text and images thought this story is incredible. After the boat transporting her sinks and a curious otter presses the button on the back of her neck, Robot Roz opens her eyes for the first time on a remote island. She is a learning robot who has no idea what her purpose is, apart from to survive. At first, the wild animals are terrified of Roz as she's a huge and scary-looking metal robot. But things begin to change when she adopts a newly hatched gosling (after she falls on his family and crushes them all to death), and learns to become a wonderful mother and friend.

This is such a unique, original, thought-provoking and heartwarming tale. This book is an amazing study of friendships, survival and adventure. Readers will lose their heart to Roz, it's a truly gripping read.  It is the perfect focus text or class read for a Year 3 or 4 class. Through this text you can study character development, description, use of language, setting, plot line as well as prediction. Children will fall in love with the relationship between Brightbill and Roz.

This is really a perfect children's book that stays with you long after finishing; a modern-day classic in the making. It is one of my favourite books of all time. An absolute must read. Check out Peter Brown's website for lots of additional information resources and freebies.
