Find out about new trends in picture book illustration and what characterises the enduring best in picture book art at an event organised by the Klaus Flugge Prize on 14th May, at Waterstones, Piccadilly.
Award-winning author-illustrators Petr Horáĉek and Mariajo Ilustrajo will be in conversation with Julia Eccleshare, discussing the art of contemporary picture book illustration.
The Klaus Flugge Prize is awarded to the most promising and exciting newcomer to children’s book illustration. Ilustrajo won the award in 2023 and both she and Petr Horáĉek are judges on this year's prize. The shortlist for the 2024 Klaus Flugge Prize will be announced the next day, 15th May.
The Klaus Flugge Prize was created to honour publisher Klaus Flugge, founder of children's publisher Andersen Press and an influential figure in picture book publishing. Past winners of the prize include Joseph Namara Hollis, Flavia Z. Drago, Eva Eland, Jessica Love and Kate Milner.
