The film producer behind How to Train Your Dragon has created a much-anticipated animation of The Wild Robot, based on Peter Brown's bestselling book, which will come to cinemas in the UK on 18th October.
The Wild Robot follows Roz, a highly developed robot who is lost and then washes up on an island where she becomes the adoptive mother of a gosling and learns to communicate with all the animals on the island. It's a story of found family, resilience and becoming the best person we can be.
Author Peter Brown is excited about the new release, particularly as his own background is in animation. On his website, he says, "My love of animation is what first made me want to go to art school. I grew up watching classic Disney animation and going to animation festivals and pouring over the pages of books about the making of animated movies. In college I studied storyboarding and character design, and I even went on to paint backgrounds on an animated TV show on The Cartoon Network. So to see one of my books come to life as a feature animated film is a dream come true."
The Wild Robot is directed by Chris Sanders, who co-directed the How To Train Your Dragon movies and Lilo & Stitch, and Dreamworks is marketing the much-anticipated film as its 'best ever' animation. In the film, Lupita Nyong’o is the voice of Roz, the wild robot; Pedro Pascal plays Fink the fox, and Kit Connor is Brightbill the goose. Catherine O’Hara is Pinktail the opossum and Bill Nighy is Longneck the goose.
There are now three books in the series: The Wild Robot; The Wild Robot Escapes; and The Wild Robot Protects.
