Highly illustrated, this fourth book in the Ivy Newt series, Ivy Newt and the Vampixies, continues the amazing work of Derek Keilty. In this adventure we are introduced to new characters in the form of the Vampixie Queen and her daughter as well as Captain Hector.
The author and illustrator have very carefully constructed this story to appeal to both boys and girls through the development of the characters, which will intrigue and interest all readers. There is a real mix of humour and jeopardy.
Ivy Newt and the Vampixies is a fun adventure for independent readers, as well as for reading aloud as the story gently explores more serious themes such as bullying, supporting each other and managing conflict. This makes it the perfect study text for focusing on plot or character development. The effective use of illustrations could also be a topic of focus.
This would be a brilliant book to share with a whole class or have as an individual reading book as it will inspire pupils to read for pleasure. I am hoping that this is not the last we will hear of Tom and Ivy.
