Millie and Storm is the fifth instalment in the Mermaid Academy series created by the team behind the Unicorn Academy series. Each title is named after a student and their dolphin companion and puts them centre stage of the story in much the same way the Unicorn series does.
In this adventure Millie, a mermaid who likes solving mysteries and taking charge of situations, is bossy but kind and caring, overhears members of another dorm secretly discussing the aloof and disturbing Mal Mer clan. Curious and unable to resist a good mystery, she draws her friends into a dangerous adventure which takes them through the Magical Globe portal, asking questions of the ancient Sea Sphinx, rescuing and caring for a lost baby fairy whale, and trying to save other sea creatures including one of their own who are being caught in the deadly nets that bewitched whales are being forced to drag.
Millie is an interesting heroine who learns a lot about herself and how she can change certain personality traits for the better, for example, listening to others' ideas and not thinking she always knows what is best.
With its appealing glittery cover, fast-paced action, and plenty of twists and turns this is sure to be popular with readers of other comparable magical adventure chapter book series like Bronte Tempestra, Rainbow Magic, and Isadora Moon.
