Reviews

Samantha

This book is a useful introduction to the importance of milk and how it is produced. It is full of information that is presented in a simple and informative way that appeals to both children in EYFS but also in Key Stage One.

This is the first book in a new series of books to help children understand and appreciate where their food comes from. A child follows a day in the life of Milly the cow, as she munches grass with her friends, drinks gallons of water, makes cow pats in the field, and visits the milking parlour with her farmer. Milly’s milk is made into butter, cheese and yoghurt.

The fun facts and informative trail at the end of the book explain more about dairy farming and produce but these were more appropriate and understood better by the children in Years One and Two compared to Reception. At a time where we are focusing on sustainability, this story highlights the message that producing food is hard work and that we must respect the animals and humans who produce it and not waste a single drop!
