Now You Know Your ABC by Caspar Salmon and Matt Hunt is a hilarious adventure and fast-paced alphabet story. This is a brilliant book to share in a Key Stage 1 classroom because it turns something familiar - learning the ABC - into a wild, imaginative chase that keeps children completely engaged.
At first, everything seems simple: A is for apple, B is for ball, C is for castle. But the fun begins when D is for dog . . . except the 'dog' is actually a sneaky wolf in disguise. As the wolf bursts out of its page and starts chasing the reader through the rest of the alphabet, children are swept into a playful, energetic journey from A to Z.
The book's humour, surprises, and interactive feel make it perfect for encouraging early readers to predict what might happen next and to think creatively about letters and sounds. It also supports phonics learning in a joyful, memorable way, showing that the alphabet isn't just something to recite, it's something to explore, laugh about and play with.
With its bold illustrations, cheeky narrator and clever twists, this story invites KS1 pupils to join the race, outsmart the wolf, and discover that letters can be just as mischievous as numbers. It's a lively, confidence boosting read that turns early literacy into an adventure.

Now you know your ABC begins as a traditional ABC book but soon turns into a clever, fun alphabet adventure with a wolf, and a journey. The wolf remains close at hand as the reader is taken through the alphabet to F for France, K for Key and much more!
Each page has a new letter of the alphabet with the dangerous wolf lurking just behind, as the book explores the alphabet and the hiding wolf and a witch and her magic carpet. The illustrations in this book are bold and colourful and certainly add to the funny text.
The alphabet is cleverly explored and the author ensures the reader can find these by the bold print. And as the author says "Wolves should stay out of the alphabet!"
This book could be used to explore the alphabet and used to help children write their own ABC books with maybe a different animal! This book was shared by a class of 6-7 year olds who loved the book and the antics of the wolf!
