Synopsis
Full of thrilling high-octane action, this is the third in an explosive new action-adventure middle grade series. Perfect for fans of Alex Rider, CHERUB and Mission: Impossible.
It's the summer holidays and the S.T.E.A.L.T.H. team is split up. Donna is in the Caribbean visiting family while the boys are bored at home, filling time with computer games - until Sam persuades Arun to pay Donna a surprise visit using MANDROID.
At the same time, plans are underway to hijack and destroy an oil platform off the Trinidad coast while a tropical storm rages. With MANDROID the only craft capable of operating in such challenging conditions, S.T.E.A.L.T.H. know they have to act to save the workers on the blazing platform and prevent an environmental catastrophe. Without the backing of MI6, the kids have to go it alone in their most dangerous mission yet...
Arun, Donna and Sam are ordinary school kids with an extraordinary secret. They are S.T.E.A.L.T.H., a crack team of agents in charge of the most cutting-edge piece of tech the world doesn't know exists: MANDROID. Always flying under the radar, they solve crimes, prevent disasters and rescue the innocent - and they STILL have to get their homework in on time! Donna, Arun and Sam are currently separated for the summer holidays. The boys are at home, bored, while Donna is with her mum visiting family in Trinidad. As Donna's birthday is approaching, Arun and Sam decide to make a surprise visit to see her, using their super machine MANDROID to get them there secretly and quickly. However, once they arrive, they discover that an offshore oil platform is under attack from a gang of eco-terrorists, and Donna has somehow got herself involved. The S.T.E.A.L.T.H team find themselves in the middle of a dangerous and terrifying mission, and they are without their usual support from British Intelligence. Can they – and MANDROID – prevent an ecological disaster?
Jason Rohan has given us yet another fast-paced, well-plotted and exciting adventure story in STEALTH: Rising Storm as we are re-introduced to Donna, Sam and Arun. The characters are so well drawn and interesting; Donna is feisty and clever, Sam often has to overcome his fears in order to support his friends, and Arun is funny and ingenious. Together they form a terrific team, working together to overcome adversity and defeat evil.
The novel has a strong ecological theme, asking the reader to consider whether profit is more important than looking after the environment. It would make an excellent class reader, and could be a good basis for classroom discussion. It is also an excellent thriller; told in real time and from several different points of view the action never stops. In the author’s usual style, there are lots of cliffhangers almost forcing the reader to keep turning the pages.
MANDROID, the shape-shifting machine used by the S.T.E.A.L.T.H team, is a character in his own right. In this novel he has become more human in his thinking, making jokes and learning sarcasm!
This is another thrilling read from Jason Rohan, a great addition to the series. Highly recommended.
