Bea is really excited about her birthday as the whole family is coming to tea and everything is going to be perfect. However, a sudden fall of snow spoils her plans as the postman can't deliver, dad can't collect the party food and worst of all, the roads are blocked and her family can't visit. Her day is ruined…but with a little help from her family, perhaps it can still be the best day ever!
The latest in the 'Big Bright Feelings' series of books by Tom Percival, Bea's Bad Day is a wonderful story about over-coming disappointments and learning to find the positive in any situation. A 'letter' from Tom at the beginning offers advice on how to cope with feelings of disappointment, providing a useful resource for adults sharing the story to refer to and encourage children to remember.
Children will easily relate to Bea's emotions and will be able to use the illustrations to help articulate how they are feeling, but also to empathise with the other members of Bea's family as they are upset for her, too. Showing Bea's world as shattered by her disappointment in the illustrations is a very clever way of conveying her feelings and, as her family try to 'repair' her day, so the cracks lessen, allowing her to enjoy her day once more.
Like other books in the series, Bea’s Bad Day is perfect for using in assemblies, as part of PSHE lessons or for story times.
