Online storytimes

10th Nov 20

Publisher Andersen Press and the Seven Stories centre are collaborating on weekly digital storytimes to share on the centre's Facebook page, where stories will be read and available to share for free during the latest lockdown in England.

The new series began on Sunday 8th November with an exclusive reading of the award-winning book The Undefeated, read by author Kwame Alexander. Kadir Nelson, the book's illustrator, recently won the CILIP Kate Greenaway Shadowers' Choice Award, as well the Caldecott Medal; Kwame Alexander was also awarded a Newberry honour for the book.

Future titles planned for the series include The Spots and the Dots, read by author Helen Baugh (illustrated by Marion Deuchars), and in celebrating 10 years since publication, Elmer's Christmas by David McKee, read by panto dame Mama G.

Paul Black of Andersen Press said, "As we did in the spring, we want to ensure that as many families can enjoy and experience our books. Without physical shops, events and festivals, teaming up with Seven Stories helps us get our books and amazing authors out there into the world in an accessible way for thousands of people. We've done as much as we can to offer free content through the pandemic, and hope that its helped while away some hours in lockdown."

The original digital storytime series, which ran from March to September, has had a combined viewership of 41,000 across 23 films.

Andersen Press has also released a series of free activity packs for families, free to download and use, all available via its website:
