Brain-fizzing Facts: Awesome Science Questions Answered

Brain-fizzing Facts: Awesome Science Questions Answered

Emily Grossman
Bloomsbury Childrens Books
ISBN: 9781408899175

Reading Brain Fizzing Facts is like having every child in your class ask a difficult or random question and you having the perfect answer!

Dr Emily Grossman has picked a range of wacky, random and highly interesting questions that cover all areas of science. Each section starts with a question that has four possible answers. She then elaborates in a chatty, accessible way and explains each option before working through the answer. The next section leads on from the previous one.

The added humour and jokes enhance the book making this a super choice for reluctant readers as well as those children who love science and are looking for something less traditional. I enjoyed some of the suggestions for experiments, however, there could perhaps be a few more of these to encourage children to inquire more into the world around them.

The overall look of the book is brilliant with illustrations by Alice Bowsher. The cartoon-like drawings make this book great as well as adding to the humour. Pages have unusual layouts such as the page about cow digestion which is organised into four stomach shaped boxes.

This is a book you could easily dip in and out of. It is also a book you could just as easily read in one sitting, absorbing the different facts and new knowledge. There is something for everybody here: parents and teachers will enjoy it as much as children. I recommend this for Key Stage 2 children although some Year 2 pupils may be able to access this with some support.

Highly recommended for a great fund read!
