Kids Fight Plastic: How to be a #2minutesuperhero

Kids Fight Plastic: How to be a #2minutesuperhero

Martin Dorey
Walker Books Ltd
ISBN: 9781406390650

I've never been a great 'eco-warrior' although I'd like to think that I do my bit. I don't litter and I try hard to recycle where possible around the home, but there always seems to be more, or a need to do more. This great book, written by the original #2minutesuperhero, Martin Dorey, is jam packed full with ideas about re-cycling. What you can re-cycle and what you can't, and more importantly, how recycling can help the environment.

Kids Fight Plastic is a motivational, informative read and an absolutely brilliant way to promote recycling to children with some fun practical activities. There are some great practical advise on how to reduce plastic in a variety on contexts. There are even sections on recycling and reducing waste in packed lunches!

Written as a series of missions, rather than chapters, each mission includes informative facts and figures, written using child friendly language and supported by exciting activities. Each #2minute mission has been assigned points for completion as an aid to motivate even the most reluctant reader or budding 'eco-activist'. My particular favourite mission for the classroom is the pen amnesty; sending felt tips or biros, that no longer work, away to www.terracycle for recycling. This will not only earn the reader points but also possibly raise money for their school!

Even a super hero might find making recycling sound exciting, at least in the first instance! Tim Wesson's illustrations, however, make this book much more appealing to less confident readers. This is a book that can be revisited again and again, providing a wealth of practical tips on how to cut down on plastic; empowering its reader to make a difference, by identifying the simple changes that can be made both at home and school. Kids Fight Plastic would be a valuable addition to any home or school library.
